The equivalent dvar core unit is the trencher and it has 3 base armor, plus the defensive benefits it gets from its trench when used well. Or the kir'ko frenzied have an AOE, but it only has 3 range and a 2 turn cooldown, so you just spread out until it's spent. So with the dvar you reposition to longer range each turn if you're fighting the kir'ko.

The Kir'ko have repeating attacks, but the dvar have attacks that only use 1 action point. I think there are factions that aren't balanced, but the dvar have lots of advantages (that you won't always notice playing the AI, because it's awful). I'd like to hear from anyone who has played the Dvar on hard or higher and beaten the AI - especially the insects. Starting to wonder with a few of the races what the Devs were thinking in terms of balance? It seems they got into certain races 'cool factor' and generously bestowed all kinds of powers and then with a few of them (Vanguard, Dvar especially) just sort of threw them together and left them underwhelming. Meanwhile bugs are melting everyone's face, teleporting and sniping psionically, healing each other, and ever their lowest tiers have ranged attacks that can fire 3x/round. oh but they get a guy who can throw an 8 point grenade. they get a Tier II that can fire a rocket every other round and otherwise has to RAM 1x otherwise. The Dvar? They get a guy that fires 1 spike (compared to 3 acid attacks for tier I insect). The insects get Tier I & II units that have every round area of effect attacks, healing, snipers with psionics that ignore armor etc.

So - someone explain the Dvar compared to, say, the K'rko (insects people - not sure I spelled them right).
